How it fights

The shardback bursts when it dies. The moment it falls, 2 smaller shardbacks break out of it, 0.45 tiles from where it fell, one to your left and one to your right, and are flung 6 tiles a second sideways before they turn back on you. Each copy has 45% of a whole one’s HP (315 on floor 31) and 70% of its size, bites like a whole one, gives half the XP and drops nothing; a copy never bursts again. Unlike the cleavecap’s halves there is no wait: the copies are on you in the same instant, so one shardback is 701 + 2 × 315 HP of work on floor 31, and the copies land beside you, not behind it. Kill it with your back to a wall or with a sweeping skill ready. At most 3 whole ones are alive at once (copies do not count).

Floor by floor

The same shardback gets tougher each floor: the floor multiplies its HP, bite and speed. An elite shardback has 3× the HP, gives 5× the XP and always drops at least a magic item plus 5 coins. “Share of waves” is the part of the floor’s wave monsters that roll as a shardback.

* Floors past 30 are not written out in the game’s tables: their numbers are the engine’s own extrapolation from floor 30. HP and bite keep the growth every floor from 6 has: ×1.065 HP and ×1.045 bite a floor, compounding.
