How it fights

The saltreel drags you to it. When you are between 1.6 and 6 tiles away it hauls its hook back behind its head and holds still for 0.67 s, and a red lane 7 tiles long and 0.9 wide is drawn on the ground from it through where you stood, filling from its end as the throw nears. Then it throws: if any part of you is still in the lane, the hook catches for 5 base damage (15 on floor 21) and reels you 3 tiles toward it in 0.2 s, usually into the pack around it, and you cannot swing or cast while you are dragged. The lane is longer than its reach to start, so walking away along it does not save you; stepping sideways out of it does, 0.19 s at the Warrior’s full speed from the middle of the lane. A hero in the air (Anvil Drop) lets the hook pass under, and one already mid-dash is hurt but not dragged. After a throw it walks for 4 s before it can throw again. At most 4 are alive at once.

Floor by floor

The same saltreel gets tougher each floor: the floor multiplies its HP, bite and speed. An elite saltreel has 3× the HP, gives 5× the XP and always drops at least a magic item plus 5 coins. “Share of waves” is the part of the floor’s wave monsters that roll as a saltreel.
