The Root Hollow · monster · floor 16 down
Delver
168 HP and a bite of 15 on floor 16; 202 HP and 17 bite on floor 20. 10–14 basic swings fell one on floor 16 before gear.

How it fights
The delver attacks from under you. When you are between 1.6 and 6 tiles away it sinks into the floor and is gone: no swing, skill or knockback reaches it while it is down, and it bites nobody. At the same instant a red ring of 0.9 tiles radius, cracked stone with violet spores in it, opens on the spot you were standing on. 1 s later the delver bursts up through the ring, for 12 base damage (31 on floor 16) if any part of you is inside it. The ring does not follow you: stepping clear of it means moving 1.24 tiles from its centre, 0.3 s at the Warrior’s full speed, so a hero who keeps walking is never hit and one who stands to trade blows always is. After it surfaces it walks for 3 s before it can burrow again, and that is the time to kill it. At most 4 are alive at once.

Floor by floor
The same delver gets tougher each floor: the floor multiplies its HP, bite and speed. An elite delver has 3× the HP, gives 5× the XP and always drops at least a magic item plus 5 coins. “Share of waves” is the part of the floor’s wave monsters that roll as a delver.
